What is MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service)?

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service and is a global messaging service that allows you to send pictures and/or audio and/or text (up to 1,000 characters) with your MMS phone to another MMS phone or any e-mail address.

  • What is the difference between MMS and SMS?
With MMS, you can send pictures, animation with a combination of sound and longer text messages, up to 1,000 characters per message. SMS on the other hand only allows you to send static picture messages with simple drawings/cartoons and is limited to 160 characters per SMS sent.
  • Do all mobile phones support MMS?
Most of the latest mobile phones support MMS.
  • Can I use MMS if mine is an 8K or 16K SIM Card?
No, you will need to upgrade your SIM Card to a 32K SIM Card, as MMS can only be supported by 32K SIM Cards and above.
  • What is GPRS?
GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service and is used to carry data over the mobile network. Think of GPRS as a pipe or channel used to transmit your MMS messages from one phone to another.
  • Do I need GPRS to enjoy MMS?
Yes, your mobile phone will need to be activated with GPRS first for you to use MMS. It will be activated automatically when you activate MMS.
  • How do I activate GPRS to enjoy MMS?
You don't need to activate GPRS separately. It will be activated automatically for you when you request for MMS activation.
  • My phone is not a MMS-enabled phone. Can I send and receive MMS messages?
You won't be able to send any MMS messages. However, you can still receive such messages. Whenever someone sends you a MMS message, you will receive a SMS notification.
  • If I accidentally delete the SMS notification, is there any way I can get the Message ID again?
Your Message ID will only be sent once. Therefore you are advised to save the SMS received.
  • Can I send a MMS message to any e-mail address?
Yes, you can send MMS messages to any e-mail address.
  • Can I send and/or receive MMS messages while roaming?
Yes, you can. There will be roaming charges, when you send MMS while you roam. Normal MMS sending charges apply on top of the roaming charges.
  • What is the maximum MMS file size that I can send from my MMS phone?
You can send a domestic MMS message with a file size up to 300KB and an international MMS with a file size up to 100KB.
  • Why can't I insert an audio attachment to my MMS message?
This is mobile phone dependent. That means some MMS phones allow audio attachments while others don't.
  • Can I download a video clip to my MMS phone?
Yes, provided that your MMS phone has been designed to support this function.
